About this policy
Everything is Something ("we", "us", "our") is a sole trader operating in Victoria, Australia. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and disclose information when you play Wide Shot, our daily film and television guessing game, available at wide-shot.com (the Service).
Wide Shot is designed to collect as little as possible. You can play every day without an account and without giving us any personal information. This policy explains exactly what changes if you choose to create one.
We are committed to complying with applicable privacy laws, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Where you are located in another jurisdiction, additional or different privacy rights may apply to you.
What information we collect
If you play without an account (the default)
- A randomly generated anonymous player identifier, created in your browser. It is not derived from your identity, device, or location, and we cannot link it to you
- Gameplay results: your daily score and per-round outcomes, associated with that anonymous identifier. We aggregate these across all players to show daily statistics such as percentiles
- Your game progress, streaks, and lifetime statistics, which are stored in your own browser's local storage and are not transmitted to us
- Standard technical data processed by our hosting infrastructure, such as IP address, browser type, and approximate region, used for delivery and abuse prevention
If you create an account
- Your email address, used to send you a sign-in code and to associate your gameplay history with your account so it can follow you across browsers and devices
That is the complete list. There are no payments, no advertising profiles, and no social features that collect information about you. We do not collect sensitive information (as defined under the Privacy Act) and ask that you do not submit any.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate the game: serve the daily puzzle, validate guesses, and record results
- Show aggregate daily statistics, such as the percentage of players you scored above. These are computed from anonymous results and never identify individual players
- Sync your history, streaks and statistics across devices, if you have created an account
- Send you sign-in codes and, rarely, notices about the Service itself
- Analyse aggregate usage patterns to understand and improve the game
- Detect and prevent abuse or misuse of the Service
- Comply with our legal obligations
We do not send marketing email from Wide Shot, and we will not use your personal information for purposes materially different from those described above without your consent.
Local storage and cookies
Wide Shot stores your game state, streaks and statistics in your browser's local storage. This storage is strictly functional — the game cannot resume mid-puzzle or keep a streak without it — and it stays on your device unless you create an account. Clearing your browser's site data will erase it.
We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking. Any product analytics we run are configured cookieless and do not build individual profiles, which is why you will not see a cookie consent banner.

We take reasonable care in selecting third-party providers. We do not sell your personal information to any third party.
International data transfers
Our database and authentication provider stores Service data in Japan (AWS Tokyo region), and our other providers may process data in the United States or the European Union. Where we disclose personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps consistent with APP 8 to ensure the recipient handles it in accordance with standards comparable to Australian privacy law.
Data retention and deletion
Anonymous gameplay results are retained to keep historical daily statistics accurate. If you have an account, your email address and its link to your gameplay history are retained until you ask us to delete them.
You can request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us at the address below. We will remove your email address, the link between your account and your gameplay history, and, if you request it, the underlying results.
Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe and in accordance with applicable law.
If you are dissatisfied with how we handle your personal information, you may complain to us first, and if unresolved, to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) or the privacy regulator in your jurisdiction.
Children
The Service is intended for users aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 16. If you are the parent or guardian of a minor who has created an account, please contact us and we will close it and remove their data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The revision date above reflects the current version. Material changes will be noted on this page, and your continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
